The Oakland Athletics, were formed from the relocation of the Kansas City Athletics to the West Coast in 1968. The name Athletics goes back to the origin of this franchise in Philadelphia. This was kept when moving to Kansas and now Oakland, so as not to forget the complete history of the franchise.

Back in 1971, in your fourth season you reached the playoffs for the first time and provided with the pitcher Vida Blue, the MVP and Cy Young Award winner. In their more than 50-year history in Oakland, they have reached the World Series 6 times and have lifted the trophy four times. They reached the finals three times in a row from 1972-1974 and 1988-1990.

The 70s in particular will forever be remembered fondly by all involved.  Led by players like Reggie Jackson, Jim Catfish Hunter, Rollie Fingers and Gene Tenace, they dominated Major League Baseball. Winning three World Series titles in a row propelled the franchise to new heights. With players like Jose Canseco, Dennis Eckersley, Dave Stewart, they reached the grand finals in 1989, where they defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-0 and won the title for the last time ever.

Oakland Colliseum was built and opened in 1968 as a multi-purpose stadium. After the relocation of the NFL team, only the Oakland Athletics play there today.  It has a capacity of about 63,000 spectators, but is released for MLB games only for just under 34,000. Already in the parking lots of the stadium, the Athletics and Oakland lettering in the green, gold and white team colors stand out.  The familiar Primary logo, the A's on a white background framed by a green circle including lettering is also often seen. The Old English A logo can be seen on the official on field caps and alternate jerseys. Also very well known and popular are the elephant logos in numerous designs.

The supply of young players from the Minor Leauges is provided by the Las Vegas Aviators, Midlang RockHounds, Lansing Lugnuts and Stockton Ports.
